If I want to use this watch to make phone calls or send texts, will I have to have a Verizon plan to use it with the same phone number I already have? Is that even possible?

If I go with another carrier will it be programmed with my number?

I really want to buy this watch, but I don't want 2 phone numbers.

We don't really know as of yet. I know AT&T and T-Mobile have $10 and $5 plans respectively. AT&T is supposedly working on something that allows two devices to share the same number. We shall see what they say Friday when it releases.

For those prices, and I am with Tmobile, if they do attach another number, I am sure there is a call fowarding option to have them both respond to the same number.. Or one could not opt for the sim for the Gear S, and just have it work like the Gear and Gear 2 does..

I can't wait until the 7th or the 9th or if Tmobile hits me with an email and tell me I can order, I am snatching a black one QUICKLY!!!

Yes I was all for it at first but then there's the matter of buying a smart tv this weekend...decisions decisions.

Thanks for the replies. It is very odd that they wouldn't address that sooner... it seems pretty important, but then again, that's Samsung for you. If I didn't love the Note series so much, I'd be all over the Droid turbo and moto 360.

I'm probably going to get one from Verizon after a month so I can see some reviews first. No way I'm dropping $350 as a Guinea pig. Especially when a gear Neo can be had on Craigslist for $100. I'm convinced that a 4G version will be announced in 6 months.

The battery life does not seem that good for the S. My Gear 2 Neo last 3 days before I have to charge. I know there is more to the S (harware, features etc) but from what I have read so far the battery life is abysmal.

Good point about the battery. I suspect we will get better battery technology in the next 2 years, so we will have to use what we have for now. If the battery life for the Gear S is true as advertised, getting almost 2 days worth is not bad. Since most of the calls and web browsing will still be done on our main phone, minus the occasional standalone smartwatch acivities, we shouldn't need to worry too much about battery life. My current Gear 2 lasts me 1.5 days, I suspect the Gear S would be the same. Too bad though the Gear S does not have a replaceable back for a new battery.

Sammuel, it doesn't have replaceable back, but charging dock can be attached and used as extended battery (while you wear or carry the S), thus doubling battery capacity. With the charging dock attached the S is hideously chunky and fat, but at least it's usable.

Where in any of the reviews did it say that the charging dock has its own battery? That review which showed the Gear S being worn with the charging dock attached was plugged in and never was it stated that it could be used as a stand alone portable charger.

That is excellent. Thank you rellimllc.

If anyone I knew wore a Gear S with the charging dock on their wrist, I would disown them as a friend.

After thinking about the charger for the Gear S I would hope that when attached it would charge up the main battery in the watch because yes it would look stupid to wear out and about with it attached.

LOL.. you're right, but I would hook it up on a 20 mile bike ride...or at least keep the dock nearby. Anyway, kudos to Samsung because this charging option is probably a first for a smartwatch.

Well, I am a pretty way out senior citizen, and I might just be walking around with a charging block on mine.. :D

BTW, do you ride a gixxer(GSXR)????

The Gear was cool on my bike rides. The wife would call, I would answer while pumping, and if she wanted to talk, I would pull over. The Gear S should be a little better too.

Right on CehowardNote4...some of us seniors remember when carrying around a bag phone was pretty crazy looking too!

So my AT&T store is one that has a watch on display - it was working, not a dummy. Also the rep seemed to know what she was talking about, said the watch does have its own phone number but used only to receive calls forwarded from your cellphone. The number isnt really standalone ie. it wont be used for incoming or outgoing calls, your cell number will. Hope helps. Oh and she said its $10 a month but guess we knew that.
