That is around the time frame I bought my 16 GB iPod Nano. I can just almost, but not quite, fit all my music on it.

My first smartphone was a BB Curve 8300. Probably had a few hundred MB in internal storage. That was followed by the OG Droid, I think that had something like 512MB. That was followed by HTC Thunderbolt, which had 8GB. I have one of those rare 32GB SGS3s which I use today.

I wanted to upgrade to the SGS4 but that simply isn't going to happen with 16GB being the only option offered on Verizon and with only 10GB usable, it seems. This is one of those situations where I feel like the world has gone mad but not many people are noticing. Onboard storage has simply not been keeping up with the pace of technology, not even close. For whatever reason, the progression of local storage on mobile devices has been retarded. Processor tech, graphic tech, antenna tech, software tech, all progressing. Battery tech has been stagnant but that is understandable. The situation is almost as bad as laptop screen tech is in the windows world (seriously, my phone has a higher resolution than my laptop screen?).

Google has been moving purposely limited the functionality of SD cards as of late. I would have been one pissed off camper if I had bought the 16GB SGS3 because it wouldn't have crossed my mind that they would have gimped SD card functionality. The excuse from Verizon for not carrying the 32GB SGS4 appears to be that the 32GB SGS3 was not popular. Well, if you don't carry the 32GB models in store and actively promote the 16GB models, and insinuate that adding a 16GB card to the phone is the same thing, yeah.....it isn't going to sell well.

I think without a doubt, there is an agenda to push everything towards this "cloud", which appears to be the answer to everything nowadays. "Cloud" this and "cloud" that, ugh.

Whatever with the cloud, I just wish storage would follow the pace of technology. If NAND prices are any kind of reference, storage is woefully behind. It's like the gauge got stuck at 16GB. 16GB shouldn't even be an option this day and age, the cost of an additional 16GB to bring the base up to 32GB is not significant.

Both the sg3 and 4 have sdcard support up to 64gb. You just have to do some formatting to get a 64gb to work.
