September 2018 Update

I'm having some minor issues with this update. Little weird things going on. Sometimes the keyboard flakes out and doesn't auto correct. This morning voicemail kept popping up in the notification tray and I did not have any new ones as I haven't had any calls. Had some apps crashing at times or just not working right too.

IDK, just doesn't feel right sometimes.

Wondering why people are suggesting the Project Fi Pixel users seem to be tied to the timing of T-mobile's schedule regarding releases. Is this the way it is with Fi? I'm a brand new Fi user, still test driving the service. I can swap between the 3 Fi providers anytime and so this begs the question would that make any difference on the update timing? I've always thought the idea behind a Google phone was getting timely updates. Hmmm, that update button? Not ever fixed apparently then?

I already had the update so won't be able to test the idea of switching networks to check till next one.

@cbreze I'm not really sure, other than T-Mobile being the "base" provider for Fi. I've had mixed experiences, sometimes I get the updates on day 1, others it's delayed.

Allegedly, the updates are rolled out in stages so maybe sometimes I'm in the early stages and others I'm not.

@hallux, thanks, I'm still learning the ins and outs of Fi.
So was just wondering if swapping providers makes any difference in the update protocol. Didnt know Tmo was the base. I'll give it a try next time.

When I did my research before going with Fi last year, I learned that Fi always looked for the strongest of Sprint, T-Mobile or US Cellular. Nothing was ever said of a "base provider". From my research a "base provider" wouldn't have made sense.

I called it that, I don't know if there's anything official. Fi won't sell to you if you don't have a strong T-Mobile presence (there ARE areas that are not approved for the service). I also call it that because when you use a data-only SIM in any device or a Fi primary SIM in an unsupported device it will ONLY use T-Mobile.

Agree, that's my understanding as well, confirmed by FI on a phone call that I had with them prior to joining.

I was having issues after I pulled my T-Mobile sim out and got the update to go through. I found the instructions to side load the OTA and did it. It wasn't that hard. I'll be side loading from now on, issues are gone. Screw waiting and T-Mobile or Google or whoever is playing games with the update schedule. I'm just going to side load once it's posted and get it on with my month.
