Just seen a commercial of att saying that t mobile and att will combined cell phone towers to make the best services.....that sounds good more 3g would be nice.
Will the sensation work on att towers?
It should work of AT&T bands, you would need to get it sim unlocked though.
I wouldn't rule it out just yet...

AT&T is already advertising a combined company even before the merger has been approved? I really don't see why the gov should let this one sale through. I have not seen one single USER ... on any forum or elsewhere who is a current T-Mobile subscriber mention that they think this is a good deal. It will eliminate competition and TMo's rates will be RAISED. Isn't the government supposed to be looking out for the consumers and trying to create more competition, not less?Just seen a commercial of att saying that t mobile and att will combined cell phone towers to make the best services.....that sounds good more 3g would be nice.

Two separate phones. The Sensation will not be able to use att's frequencies unless tmobile allows it. And that's at least a year away.

The Sensation has a pentaband radio. So do all blackberries, many motorolas, LGs, and HTCs, and the iPhone. They are all software locked, however, to their respective carrier's bands.Using frequencies is hardware related. So if the radio does not exist in the device there's nothing that can be done.
Any GSM device can be unlocked and used on either TMO and AT&T's edge networks. But since they use different 3G frequencies one cannot work on the other's 3G network. So the TMO Sensation can be unlocked and used on AT&T right now BUT you won't get any 3G because it lacks the radio. But there's supposed a Sensation out there with AT&T bands (probably for a Canadian carrier). That one would be able to be unlocked and used on AT&T's bands.
On a side note, the plan AT&T has is that if the merger is approved, they would move all of TMO customers off of TMO's current 3G frequency to AT&T's frequency. Since TMO's 3G spectrum would not be freed up, AT&T would combine that with another frequency for LTE expansion. So in any case, a device that has 1 or the other's 3G bands will not work on the other's. There are some devices out there that have the radios for both. I hope eventually makers start using pentabands in their devices. That means anyone's 3G .... Sprint, VZW, TMO, AT&T and who ever else.

With the Sensation and G2x, we will likely see a software-unlock to allow those phones to use AT&T's frequencies.
Also, just because AT&T will use T-mobile's AWS spectrum for its LTE does NOT mean that they will just flip a switch and move all of T-mobile's subscribers to AT&T's bands. What will happen will be a phased switchover that could see some subscribers still using T-mobile's spectrum for a year or more AFTER the switch has begun. It is neither easy nor quick, so don't expect anything to change quickly.
