set a different text message notification per contact

I would like to have a different notification for when some of my family text me.
Can this be achieved on LG G 4

Hangouts lets you do this if you let it control SMS. Just open the menu when you're in the contact itself and tap "People and Options".

I exclusively use Hangouts (and sometimes LINE for my friends and family in Asia), and you can do it with Hangouts, but I don't know about the stock LG messaging app.

That is unfortunate. I want to do individual contact notifications and don't do much with Hangouts.

But grouping may be the way to go.

If you enable SMS in Hangouts and use that as your main messaging app (which is really just the push of a button), you can achieve what you're looking for quite easily.
Whether it works in LG's stock messaging app or contact app or whathaveyou, I'm not sure, as I always only do it through Hangouts.
