Go to "messaging" app in manage apps (in settings) first. Scroll to bottom, then click clear default. Then launch messaging again, and you'll be able to select Handcent as default.

what if there is no current default set? I went into the messaging app from manage apps >settings and it was already greyed out. I guess my question is what is the importance of having one the default and how do you do it? I am also using go sms.
I have used both Go SMS and Handcent. And I have found that in both cases, the user defined settings (or custom views) are being reset quite a bit. It's happening very frequently using Handcent, and with that app there isn't a quick way to go back to your custom views. I've contacted both development teams, but have yet to hear back.
Sorry...Samsung Infuse 4G. Lest there be any confusion.
