Setting up a 1st generation Chromecast with a Pixel 6 Pro

Title says it all. I recently changed routers. Unfortunately, Google broke the ability to set up a Chromecast with a Pixel. I raised an old Nexus 5 from the dead and side loaded and earlier version of Google home. No joy. I don't know if it won't work with an older version of Google Home or if it sees a Google phone and just assumes it is a Pixel. I don't have a working non Google phone to use. Anyone encountered this and found a workaround?

Yes, none of that worked.

Yeah sorry. It's a shame a perfectly good piece of hardware becomes deprecated, but they've added so many features to Chromecast since the 1st gen that I imagine the old hardware can't quite support all of it. At least it didn't cost much!

Yeah, it was just for my father to be able to watch some Yankee games that are streamed. I have the newest one in the living room, but he doesn't need all those features.
