Which is more accurate (signal strength) - "bars" on notifications or Db reading in settings?

Why does phone switch back & forth from 3 or 4 bars 3G signal to 1 bar 4G? Does this matter?

Can anyone explain this - Sent a text from our camp site (no cell service) just before going to town. Sent another text while in town, went through immediately. This was on Wednesday; first text was received on Saturday. I thought that if sent text with no service would automatically send when get service. Verizon rep could not explain. I believe that was in an area where Verizon is "using" an independent company's cell service.

I believe that you can't root a Note 3 on Verizon yet. Do you thing it will be possible in the future; or can you downgrade to 4.4 & then root?

dB reading in settings. Depending on what area you're in, it may drop back and forth...especially in a weak signal area or indoors in a concrete or brick building. Depending on what LTE band is available in the area.

Signal: This phone is setup to strongly prefer LTE-specifically band 4 (XLTE) if it is available and signal is -120ish or greater, otherwise it will use band 13 LTE. When that becomes too weak, it will go back to 3G, or 1x. Normal. It not sending texts when out of service then re-establishing is the messaging app at fault. Ignore it, minor bug.

Root: You can roll back to 4.4.4 if you want, but you won't get root. Not on 5.0 Lollipop either.

The bars are an estimate, and can actually be used to make you think you have a better signal. The actual signal level is measured in db, or actually in negative db. The lower the number, the stronger the signal since you are in the negative ranged moving towards zero. So -90 is a stronger signal than -100. I use advanced signal status which shows all your signal levels on an easy to read page, and also assigns a percentage level beside the db level. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=com.cc.signalinfo&hl=en&token=mYD4T300
