My upgrade time is 2 weeks out. Just wanting opinions. Is the 4 on par with the 3 or is it a far more superior device. I've never had a samsung. This will be my first. Which one would you choose?

When buying a phone that you are signing a 2 year contract for ALWAYS get the best phone that you can get!

You want it to last the entire 2 years of your contract without hating it at the end right?

I just got the S3 on Monday for 2 reasons. One that there aren't that many notable upgrades in features that make it worth it for me. Two is the price difference. At best buy S4 is 199 and S3 is 49! I have a new baby and need to save the money I can. Plus with the S4 being so new, what happens if there are software problems that need to be worked out. Atleast S3 has been out for a while to know that a lot of people love the phone.

Personally, I've never had a phone that made it 2 years either before failing or making me so mad that I upgrade on my own. (I'm easily bored) That said, the S3 has made me the happiest at this point in time of ownership more than any other phone has...Good job, Samsung.

I totally understand your point though, and if I was up for an upgrade I'd look at the 4, or the HTC One right now...Seeing that $300.00 price tag for the 4, I could easily be swayed into getting a 3 though :)

Where is the 4 going for 300?

I would never buy a year old phone. Technology moves ahead to quickly and when you are up for an upgrade the phone is 3 years old, you hate it, and haven't had an update in about a year.

Apps are going to be more and more resource intensive, the phone will show it's age in just one year, but you still have another year on your contract.

Understand about wanting new tech. Downside to that is no time has went by so the bugs haven't been worked out. Also the s3's jellybean update puts the phone really close to the s4 from what I've read. Anyone else think so?

If you are not a gamer, the S4 16gb should be fine. If your are a gamer and already have a 32gb S3, best to stick with that u until a 32gb is available.

I do have one and will wait (perhaps futile).

Apparently it's not going for 300 anywhere...now...I saw it yesterday when I was browsing somewhere and that's where I got that number. I'd like an S4...don't take my post wrong...I'd also like a Nexus 4 and an HTC One...

A few things to consider...

The quick and dirty answer is: Get the S4.

For a more complex answer, here's what you have to consider:
1. Price. If you're on a budget (or simply want to save some $), the S3 will be considerably cheaper. I think the S3 is going on Amazon right now for $49.99 (and may even be cheaper other places), and the pre-order price for the S4 is $199 (after mail-in rebate).

2. Longevity. No, the S4 may not be a *huge* upgrade over the S3, but don't think that the improvements are insignificant. They both may have the same amount of RAM, but the S4 processor is better. In terms of updates, the S3 will probably still get at least one more major update (no guarantees, though likely), but the S4 will be supported longer. It is important to remember that if you plan on sticking with Verizon's update schedule and buying subsidized phones, you're making a 2-year investment here, so by the time your next update comes around, the S3 will already be 3 years old. (so it could be the equivalent of owning a Galaxy S1 or HTC EVO 4G right now)

3. Storage. From the evidence available, the 16GB model is the only model coming to Verizon. Sure, it has SD Card support, but as rushmore points out, if you're into games, that 16GB will go quick and you may want to opt for a phone with at least 32GB internal storage, whether it be an S3 or something different. (Media such as pics and video can go to SD Card, but apps cannot). If you're not really into game apps, than it really shouldn't be an issue. Here's another response I gave to this subject.

There are probably other points to consider as well, but those are the primary ones I can think of right now...

So that's the bottom line. I personally think that the S3 will do just fine for quite a while, it's a great phone -- but if you're really into top of line tech, waiting for the S4 is definitely the better choice of the two.

I just signed up to get the s4, The colors are freakin amazing, that's the one thing that stood out to me most when I saw it @bestbuy

Depending on whether your a tweaker, I would go with SGS III because SGS 4 is locked down. Also, price might be a difference.
