SGS4 to NON-MHL Compatible HDTV.

Okay, I have a Verizon US Samsung Galaxy S4 and I want to hook it up to my HDTV that has HDMI ports. It does not however have a HDMI port that specifies that it is MHL compatible. I have been to Best Buy twice and they have given me products that do not work, because the HDTV needs to be MHL compatible. My question is: Does the Samsung MHL 2.0 HDTV Smart Adapter work with HDTV that do not have MHL compatibility?
