My 2 month old Evo LTE took a swim this morning after I accidently dropped in water. :(
I did something even more stupid and after dryng it off I charged it. When it was charging, it was vibrating like crazy even when I unplugged it until the battery finally died. lol.

I have it in rice but its hard to believe that rice will dry it and save my beloved Evo LTE after what its been through.

Has anybody had their Android completely covered in water? Any success with rice.

Stay tuned and I'll let you know tomorrow how it turns out......

If all else fails, I'll turn to Ebay and it will cost me.....looks like the going rate is 225.

I'm glad I have a sms backup app and an android so that it automatically backs up contacts/apps.

Re: damn......dropped my lte in water. I hope the rice trick work

I don't know, the rice trick has worked for me in the past but the key thing is being able to pull the battery out right away. Obviously we don't have that option with the evo lte so all hope might be lost. In either case though I would love to know if you were able to save it.

No matter what if you want a fighting chance here resist the temptation to turn it on for at least 2 full days.

Rice trick does work if u haven't shorted your battery already

It was weird how it died because the screen slowly went out like the terminator did before coming back.

Although it was absolutely stupid to plug it in later after i dried it with a towel, I am optimistic that my Evo will "be back" :)

take it to the sprint store and tell them it just died, theres no water marker as far as i know, if its in with the battery, they probly wont open it up to check

Hopefully most people have honesty and integrity, unlike you.

I am willing to bet a months worth of paychecks they have a way to instantly spot water damage.

Re: Shoot!..Dropped my Evo LTE in water. I hope the rice trick wo

My girlfriend dropped her Samsung Galaxy 5 inch player in water a couple of months ago. At first, it looked like all was lost. Wouldn't power on for a few days and when it finally did the screen had water under it and it operated very sluggish.Tried the rice trick and after about a week it worked as if nothing had ever happened to it. Good luck!

Well, it hasn't been 24 hours.......I can't wait so I'm gonna pull it out of the rice and try to start it up. I plugged it in and nothing happened. It did vibrate like crazy before it died after I charged it for about 5-10 minutes so the battery draining could explain that.

All of a sudden I have a blinking red light!..........Keeping my fingers crossed while it charges........

Submerge it in methylated spirits (denatured alcohol) for a while then let it air dry. The alcohol absorbs the water and then evaporates.

While looking on ebay for my next evo, I heard that whether sound (HTC Sense weather background) from the rice. Then I heard my gmail. I have a blinking green light at the top of the phone. Cool! However, the screen won't turn on.

I wonder if I should still put it in denatured alcohol especially while its on. I did see some Youtube video where this kid has the phone on in denatured alcohol working.

At least with it on, it might sync my missed sms to gmail....

Alcohol is great for drying out most electronics as long as they have no power running to them.

Yeah, if it's off then fine but liquid+powered on electronics=recipe for disaster. I used alcohol to get Pepsi out of my old phone (don't ask) and it worked well...but I had it off the entire time.

HOLY SNAP!!!!

ITS WORKING!!!!! THE SCREEN IS ON!!! LOL

YEA!!!!!!!!!

I can tell the screen isn't full 100% yet. As a matter of fact you can see the screen is still wet inside. Look at the pic.

Now I will be testing all the features....phone call, Bluetooth, wifi, NFC, etc.

Re: Shoot!..Dropped my Evo LTE in water. I hope the rice trick wo

Post water test

Phone charges: yes
Wifi: yes
sms: yes
GPS: yes
3G: yes
Bluetooth: yes
NFC: yes
Speaker: yes

Finally the screen: yes, but still is wet as shown in the above pic. Hopefully this will improve.

I'm gonna pass on using the alcohol. Why? because even though it will absorb the water, I would have to start the rice thing all over.
