That's the way almost all Android apps work - if the app changes things at the Linux level, you have to make a new shortcut every time it's updated. (You don't have to update Magisk Manager every time Topjohnwu updates it, only update Magisk itself - unless the update to the manager is important to you.. [Most updates are to include phones that Magisk doesn't work on, so you could still be running version 16 now, and it would still work - and just ignore the update reminders.])
