Shoud i upgrade my epic software

This is my first post. I'm a pre convert. I must say I love this phone. Although I miss how the pre would preview notifications and tapping on said notifications would tke you to the msg. I.e a sms. Anyways the first day I bought my phone I clicked on media hub. It wouldn't load therefore I realized I had the old software. A few days later it asked me to upgrade. After hearing all the horor stories about drm and killing tasks I duno if I really wanna upgrade..it seems like a lot o crap to do. I don't wanna toggle airplane mood and check my running tasks a million times a day. But I'm getting tired of being asked every hour if I wanna update the software. Should I wait a few weeks till froyo is pushed? Or I the update really that bad? Any imput is greatly apreciated

Oh... one more question. Is there an app that will turn the screen on when you get a txt just for just a momet then shut it back off. I find it irratating to hit the power button... drag to unlock the screen... then drag down the msg bar.. then click on the msg. Is there not a easier way?

Handcent messaging app has a toast option, that will pop the message up on your screen....
