Should an MHL adapter just work?

My Vizio 47inch 3D tv just won't recognize my Galaxy S4. It says connected but my HDMI input says "No signal"
I am using the 5 to 11 pin adapter already and other TVs in my house recognize my phone no problem. My Vizio TV just doesn't.
I tried different methods, different HDMI cables and Inputs and still nothing.
The weird thing is that it worked just once when playing XBMC. Then I unplugged it and plugged it again it just didn't work anymore.
I am starting to believe this is a problem with the Vizio TV itself.

The MHL flickers constantly and cut off picture and charge at times.

I was forced to purchase a new cellphone to continue using T-Mobile/MetroPCS signal.
Now I need to find a 5 pin MHL for my LG STYLO 3....
