Should I buy a LeEco s3?

I'm in the market for a new. CHEAP phone. I currently have a Nokia Lumia 635, which is honestly pretty bad. I was looking at the G4 Play, but I really want a bigger screen..

I've never heard of LeEco, but somehow I ended up on their website.

They're having some flash sale thing tomorrow, bringing the price down to what seems like a stunning $150. Is that true? A fingerprint scanner, 5.5" 1080p panel, Snapdragon CPU, 13MP camera and much more for $150?

Can anyone vouch for their quality? Any opinions?

Thanks.

Up and coming brand;
India seems to be the target market ; despite the (high) specs I doubt the quality of the hardware; eg quality of the Ram, etc

Personally I hate Samsung ; still using one since there are plenty of resources when I need help, etc rooting

I wouldn't want to take a risk, but $150 is at the very top of my budget. The only phone that fits the bill besides this one is the G4 play. The Le eco has MUCH better specs all over, but like you said, the quality could be mediocre.

I guess it comes down to, is it worth the risk to buy from an almost unknown Chinese company that may or may not offer a warranty or supply updates.

I'm going to go look at the warranty.

Personally, if you can make a purchase at the full $100 discount (having registered) - and I think very few will, then it's an extremely good deal. The UI may take getting used to in a few small places, and there's no NFC for Pay and the like, but it sounds as well built as the more expensive model, the new SD652 should be extremely good, it will be supported in the US (don't know how well) - and you can always sell for what you paid, hopefully.

If you didn't see the AC blogs, make sure to read :

Thanks for the info! I'm coming from a Windows 8 phone, having never used an android I feel it won't be as bad as for most others.

I'm registered and ready for as soon as it goes up tomorrow. If I decide to get it. I've read all the blog posts, and really everyone seems to like it. Even with all the weird software it doesn't look too bad. Could be good, who knows.

no, even though it is very cheap, the software is junk.

Why is this? I have yet to see any reviews saying it's terrible. It's different, yes. But even say I hate it, I'd think there's a way to get around most of it.

More opinions! ;)

Ah you're the $125 on T-Mobile guy.
Welcome anyways.

I was not going to post as you rightly want other views, but as time is tight I would put another thread with this question in two other forum sections, maybe three, as this quickie forum is inundated and not often viewed by regular members. A question will not be viewed by many if it had an answer, though the thread title was good.

Ask again - sue me mods :) - also in General Help and How To where regular members look, and Introductions whwre site ambassadors always say hi! [both under Android Central Community].

There is one older Le Eco forum with a question on the other model tomorrow:

LePro 3 Qualcomm 821 for 299?! WOW! - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

I hope the phone/sale works out for you. The other poster may have closer knowledge of their UI so I don't know but these are newer models.

"Remember Captain Over, we're all counting on you. We know you can do it. Just wanted to say God speed, may the force be with you and.... oh we've landed already! " [Airplane movie misquoted]

Yep, that was for my sister, the G4 play should be here any minute. I just can't bring myself to spend $100 for a phone who's specs don't even get close to close to this, and it has ads.

Lol, thanks for that. I will post on the General help right now, I didn't even know there were different sections haha!

Thanks again! :D

Well, it was closed over on the general help. o well.

Guess I'll wait here for more answers.

I can see why that can happen. My bad.
No one's fault.

I will bump this thread later with another post.

If you feel like saying Hi in Introductions and explaining you were encouraged to post in another forum by me due to time constraints, you may get useful opinions from some good site ambassadors there. People obviously come online at different periods.

All good.

I'll probably say hi over there and see if anyone has any opinions on this.

At this rate tho, I'll just buy it tomorrow. Enough people are saying it's a great phone. Here, other forums, blogs, etc.

Welcome to the forums. There's a new forum dedicated to LeEco phones. There you can find links for reviews and other articles about the company.

Hoorah! :D

Two small points. The second tier Snapdragon 652 performs very well apparently, certainly compared to the Snapdragon 410 on the G4 Play and probably better than the 617 on the G4/Plus. It is built on much bigger architecture (don't ask me) than the top range 820/821, and the 625 of my current favourite phone the Moto Z Play, so as a result it won't be as power efficient as the top drawer SoC's and may create more heat but it is a newish design.

The phone has the new Type C power and data cable connector. As you come from a different platform you may not have old cables lying around, but it won't use the prevalent micro USB cable afaik unless there's an adapter you can carry around.

Snapdragon 652 vs 820: What's the difference

Yeah, I don't believe I've ever used a USB C.. But shouldn't be a big deal. They are the thing now.

I'm guessing the 652 is noticeably better than the 400 which is already a huge step. If it will out perform the Play or G4 plus, that's just a huge bonus.

Now I just hope I can get one. ;)

I just asked LeEco about any future plans to upgrade to nougat and got this:

Hello Melopuf, thank you for your interest in our products! Unfortunately we cannot comment on unannounced updates, but please continue to follow us on our fan pages for the latest updates.

Which was kinda disappointing.. Then I asked about security/stability updates in general and got this:

We have a fully staffed R&D team standing by to work on updates. Our phones are also configured with a System Update app that allows you to download and install updates over the air for your convenience. This app will even automatically notify you when new updates are available.

What does that mean exactly?

Forget about manufacturers' support; never existed

Instead lurk at eg Xda and see whether it is a popular device

Does anyone know how long it should be until there are tons of aftermarket cases for these?

If/When I get the S3, I'd rather not pay $20 for a silicone case and $10 for a screen protector. But that may be the case if it takes these companies a month to manufacture cheap cases/screen protectors.

For lesser known phones, it takes some time. There might be a few available now but in a few months, there should be more options ideally. (For context, I have an Honor 8, which was released late August-early September, and more cases became available last month, compared to just a few before.)

Right now, there are none. Besides what they sell which are insanely overpriced. If I get the phone, which I'll talk about in a second, I'll probably just be careful with it until there are some cheaper cases. I would have thought there would be 1 or 2 aftermarket cases available on launch, but I guess not.

As for getting the phone, it's starting to look like I may not.. I'll try to, but it's looking more and more like I won't be home at 10AM PT. But I'll do my best.

Only get one if it's what you want to do.

It is very tempting. You may not get through anyway as you say.

I would also consider the regular Moto G4. I think it's $200 but the Amazon Prime version is currently $150 with lock screen ads that can be removed apparently (in the forums) and Amazon bloatware that is possible to remove if careful.

You're right there's not any decent bumper case yet, but if the phone starts to sell big there will be.

Oh, I want one. Very badly now. :)

All I can do is hope and try lol. I looked at the Moto G4, but no fingerprint sensor.. I've never used one and I want to have one so bad now LOL.

Just an FYI:

The American LeEco Le S3 is the exact same phone as the Indian LeEco Le 2

LeEco Le2 Specifications and Parameters - Lemall.com
Dimensions for Le 2 : 15.11 × 7.42 × 0.75 cm (5.95 x 2.92 x 0.3 in)
DImensions for S3 : 151.1 x 74.2 x 7.5 mm (5.95 x 2.92 x .30 inches)

So, any case made for that one, should work just fine! Also, take a look at reviews for that device if you want more info about the phone!

Yeppers!!! Also remember that it DOES come with a TPU case in the box (i know, not quite the beefy case you linked to, but there is at least something!)

Also, a question. I did the little spin wheel and got (quite a few) coupons added to my account. It says they are active, but I have NO CLUE how to actually use them. I added an item to my cart and went to check out, and there was no way to add the coupon. No codes on the page, no way to click on them...nothing! Hopefully they'll magically activate when the flash sale starts. I'd like to get the glass screen protector for $5.00! :)

On my Nokia, I'm starting to fear that I wont make it.. I'm trying to get home quick enough but I'm not sure. I hope they have enough to keep it going for a bit.

And thanks for the info about the case!!
