Hello. It's time to change my phone and get a new one. I've been using Galaxy S4 for the past 2 years, and now I decided I want to switch to HTC. The problem is, I have no idea which one to get, M8 or M9. There's not a single M9 review out there after it's latest update, because I know it had heat problems, camera problems etc... Anyone whose using M9 can honestly confirm is that being fixed? Oh, yeah, and what about boomsound? People have been telling the M8 still has better and louder boomsound?

I know M8 is getting 6.0 M update with Sense 7, so I guess it will be still good phone for at least 2 more years?

I'm really having hard times of choosing between those two, but I'm slightly aiming toward M8.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

The Upgraded camera, 64-bit processor and the ergonomics of the M9 was enough for me to make the jump. I've owned M7, M8 and the M9. If this was at launch, I would probably be telling you different. Now that the phone has been properly optimized through OTA updates, this phone is perfect. None of the issues that existed at launch are there anymore. All in all, both phones are fantastic. For me though, the m8 is only 4-6 months away from being a 2 year old phone. So therefore, I can't recommend buying that device, especially if you plan on keeping it for two years.

Agree with the above post. Also, if you want a great price, check swappa. I also saw some u locked, refurbished ones on eBay for $349. I haven't bought phones on eBay before, but have on swappa, and will do so again.

I wouldn't say "none of the issues that existed at launch are there anymore". They've addressed many of them through software but the lack of hardware in the camera ie. OIS still yields poor low light pictures.

That said, don't bother getting an M8 though. Get the M9.

Using RAW, I'm actually taking better low light pics than my wife's Note 4, which was rarely possible when I first got the phone. Though slightly improved, video recording is still not so good. I doubt much could be done there and I doubt HTC will even try. Overall though, I would say the phone has vastly been improved upon since launch.

I NEVER take photos at night. Never mattered to me I guess.

Digitally assigned space taken up by my Chromebook, M9 or N9 <(•.•)>

OK. But this isn't about you. It's about this guy asking the question and the general public. Maybe when I'm a senior I'll start going to bed before it gets dark but regular folk go out occasionally when the sun goes down and take pictures at restaurants, bars, clubs, vacation scenery, etc. of friends or family. I've found work around like HDR mode but you have to keep the camera really still to get a clear photo. They needed a better sensor and OIS for better low light. Otherwise though the camera is fine.

I agree with others here, the M9 is a great phone, I am actually very impressed with what HTC have achieved since its release making it a great device, and the camera can take some truely stunning pics, however, you can get better results using Manual Mode in camera.

The heat issues you mentioned have been addressed alot but M9 still gets warm when doing intensive stuff like long periods of Gaming , 4K video recording and heavy usage.. but its been pretty much sorted.

I tried an M8 a few days ago and the Boomsound speakers do have a slight richer rounder tone but only noticable if you stand them side by side. What I found interesting though is now that HTC are releasing updates using Apps over the Play Store, instead of big OTA updates, some of the apps dont function that great on the M8, such as the Camera App update, which re-introduces the swesome Zoe aacross the M8, EYE and M9 devices, but yet I found made the M8 camera slow and clunky..

Also, HTC have pulled 5.1 with sense 7 update for the M8, but will be adding it all into Android M. However, "M" will be quite awhile off on the M8. Although the M8 is only half the price and still a great phone if you were getting a 12 month contract... but not for 2 years..

Go for the M9.. its still being updated, so its future proof.

Hope that helps
