Should I buy myTouch 4G or wait?

Hello;

I am finally going to upgrade my phone and get a smartphone, from my research I narrowed my choices down to a Nokia N8, or a myTouch 4G. I've decided I will get the myTouch since Android seems a lot better than Symbian, which at this point looks like it would just be a liability in the future.

Anyways, before I make my purchase I was wondering if I could get some opinions on whether or not I should hold off a bit longer to get a phone. It seems that dual-core/1gb RAM phones are right around the corner, which would probably provide much better performance for the money. I don't mind waiting a bit longer if it will be more beneficial for me in the long run. I mean right now I'm using a Sony Ericsson W350 (..lol.. I know) so I'm sure I would be capable of holding out just a bit longer.

So should I go ahead and grab the myTouch, or wait a bit longer and get a newer phone with better hardware?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I apologize if this is the wrong place to be posting this, if it is could I please be directed to the right forum?

I would definitely wait. The myTouch 4G is a great phone but there are rumors of the HTC Pyramid coming to T-Mobile soon, which looks amazing. Even if you wait and then decide you still want the myTouch 4G, you will still have that option.

The next best thing in the world is always a month or two away... if you keep waiting you will hear about another great phone just around the corner and all you need to do is wait another month or two, which turns into three or four... and why not wait for honeycomb... and then one with a 10megapixal camera... and then one with a quad core processor... keep waiting!!!

The myTouch 4G is awesome. The pyramid is rumored to be out in may/june, and by then the next rumor will have started. At some point you just have to pull the trigger.

Battery life is still a big question mark with dual core processors too.

You can always wait and there will always be something better. The quicker you decide, the sooner you are up for an upgrade. Look at it that way.

Thanks for the replies.

The Pyramid looks promising.. but everyone is right, I need to pull the trigger at some point.

I've decided that the longest I will wait is until April and May, and only if the phone I am waiting for is substantially better than a myTouch 4G.

Thanks again for all of your opinions on this matter.

It is a hard decision because ultimately we always want the newest best technology. I have a jailbroke iphone 3gs and really wanted to go to att, but it was not an option for me. Some family members got the mt4g for christmas so I decided to pull the trigger this past weekend. I got them for 50 before the promotion was announced. I called tmobile and got them for free so that made having to get a new phone a lot easier to swallow for me. You could always get it and try it for 20 days and if you dont like it/something better comes along then no harm done :)

The MT4G is free through tomorrow... if you want a high end Android phone, go for it... you won't find another deal as sweet on the upcoming dual-core phones.

Yup. Went into my T-mobile store today, and the place was nuts. Almost every customer in there was getting an Android set, including the Cliq 2, MT4G (saw at least 10 customers walk out with one) and the Vibrant.

While it's true the next best thing is always a month or so away... I'm really impressed with how the MT4G has held up so far. 3 months later, the MT4G is still competitive with recent releases. For those of us that jumped on this phone right away - I think we made a great decision.

Having said that, I would be hesitant to get a phone that has been out over 3 months now with so much buzz lately...

but it also depends on the user's situation..

like for me, even though i know better phones are coming, they are not cheap,

my iphone 3gs was done and i needed a phone quick, plus my parents just signed a 2 year contract with tmobile a month ago so i was able to hop on yesterday and todays deal for a free mytouch (friend works at tmobile) and i'm glad to say i am impressed and liking my phone more and more as i spend more time on it

it all depends on you, if money is not a problem, wait a month or two and get the better phones that are coming out

keep in mind too that the mt4g is $50 or less right now, and in a couple months when new phones come out it'll be even cheaper, and a new dual core will be at least $200 with contract. Then you have to ask, why do you need to have a dual core right now? Just to say you have a dual core phone? The mytouch 4g did just come out less than 6 months ago, i mean it is still recent and very capable tech lol. I can't imagine what i would do on a phone right now or in the next year that would require a dual core processor. Until new awesome versions of android get released that require a dual core phone that i just can't live without, you gotta ask, what's the point?
