Hi,

I am new and would like to have some advise.

Background information.

1) First tablet Nexus 7 2013 (died on me 2 weeks ago and it is to pricey to have it repaired) I was very happy with this tablet and never had big problems. Only last time before it died it had several times overheating chip and i suspect the gaming wb gods of injustice was fault of that. Play that a lot and long time especially during weekends.

2) Looking for an upgrade and Samsung Galaxy Tab s 8.4 seems good for what I need.

3) I am not technical.

4) I look for 3gb rAM memory tablet mainly for the gaming experience and for watching movies more smoother.

What I used my tablet mainly for.

a) Gaming two main games: WB Gods of Injustice and WB Mortal Combat
b) movies. Watching hd movies (put them on the tablet and after that remove them again), Netflix, youtube, videos from web sites.
c) Surfing the net on google chrome browser.
d) checking e-mails (yahoo and gmail)
e) viber (very important), skype, fb messenger.
f) occassional photo taking for sharing on FB and Instagram.

I read a mix of customers reviews from raving positive to very disappointing.

My doubts:

1) Apps run sometimes laggy. Or start up slower
2) Batter-life. 50 /50 say positive others negative. Other say again after "some tweaking" and what tweaking they do not say. The battery life is ok
3) Bloat ware (not a huge problem but might become a bit of annoyance) after warranty time it can be rooted (who could help) anyway and the bloatware removed.
4) I read that someone gets unwanted Samsung ads on apps not from samsung itself when starting those apps that are not from samsung. Is this true and can that be fixed?
5) Warranty and customer service. I read worrying customers reviews that even when a tablet is in warranty the customer service does not repair or replace the tablet.

Screen is a plus but not necessary a must. I was happy with the quality of the nexus 7 2013 for my movie time. I watch it as well in bed. But need a sleep timer so that the tablet turns itself off after a set of time. Do not know where to find this and also no app seems to exist for that but would be great when it does. Can you help?

I read both positive customers news of the tablet after lollipop update that it runs more smoother and some even say it runs even worse.

What is your experience with this tablet? Should I buy this one. Or is there another option that I am not aware off.

Should I wait for the tablet s2 8.0 just recently announced?

Thank you.

I just got my tab S delivered today. I'd say alot of it depends on the price you pay for the tablet. I paid 249.99 for it so I think it was well worth it.... If I paid 399.99 for it I may have expected more than any tablet can deliver. I do enjoy using it and it's got alot of nice features and it does run better than any tablet I've had or used before. I had the Dell venue 8 7840 before and shipped it back because I didn't care for it after I played with a tab s. I think the tab s series is one of the better tablets you can get running android.

Thank you Bplink95 for your answer. Did you updated it from kitkat to lollipop 5.02? If so does it run smoother then kit kat?Where did you pay for the tablet 249,99? Is that in USD or in Euro as i am in Ireland.

I've had mine for a year or so now, disliked the screen/scroll lag so much I was considering getting rid of it... Decided to start messing with ROMs, CM worked well however I managed to get a Samsung Lollipop release on to it and it runs pretty darn well now. Battery life isn't fantastic nor is it horrible, I'm fun with it ( I don't play games on it... Casual use,... Surfing, social apps, some reading via play books). As for the gimmicky bloat apps, I disable whatever can since I don't use them.

My wife has the 8.4 pro and its amazing for day to day use and the battery life is good. My daughter has the tab s 8.4 and its even better. Both are amazing tablets in my opinion.

I've had my S 8.4 since just before Christmas and absolutely love it. The form factor is perfect, the screen is awesome for watching movies, very good value. I picked mine up with coupons, points, etc from Best Buy. It doesn't come out of the case Samsung made for it. A perfectly made combo!

I checked the Samsung Tab S 8.4 out in one of the shops nearby. It was low on battery....sounds familiar. However. They had also the tab s 10..and played a demo film on it (the famous one) i must say i am already impressed. I checked also the responsiveness. Better then the nexus 7 2013 i had. So will go now for certain for the tab s 8.4. Hope the price will drop a little now the tab s2 8.0 is out..

Thank you all for your honest replies

Hey. Staples had it on sale for 299 then you got 50 off if you used visa checkout to pay for it making it 249 plus tax. It was a great deal.... I did upgrade to 5.02 then did the clear cache and factory reset and it runs great. I was worried about it because I went through that fiasco with the note 4 to 5.02 and it really crippled my note but the tab s runs great on it so far. I really like the tablet alot especially for what I paid for it. The last week they also had sales on 10.5 tab pro for 249 at best buy and the 12.2 tab pro for 350 at best buy I believe as well. Those deals are dead now but if you go to slickdeals.net and set deal alerts for keywords "galaxy tab" it will alert you to any deals on the tablets. :)

Just got my new bronze Samsung Tab S 8.4 to replace my Nexus 7 2012
Highly recommended, it's a quantum leap from the Nexus
I was considering the Samsung Tab S 8.4 version 2 but don't like the aspect ratio, wrong shape for video in landscape causing black bars
Love my Samsung Tab S 8.4

the main benefit of Tab S 8.4 LTE is built -in call function, best screen and now got android lollipop 5.0.2 only.

I bought the SM-T700, which is the 16gb wifi version (added a class 10 32gb samsung micro sd).
It upgraded to Lollipop 5.02, I then rooted it and loaded TWRP (made a nandroid backup, too).

The tablet runs great, it's light and easy to use.
I watch Amazon Instant Video, read Kindle books, have all my Play Apps, use OneNote with a capacitive stylus for meetings and have customized the interface using Nova as my launcher - It is perfect.
For size, speed, functionality and dependability -and now price, it is unbeatable.
I recommend it.

I would NOT recommend you buy the Tab S or any Samsung product mainly due to the "customer service" they provide is PATHETIC - long story.
