Should I get a new phone?

I read an article earlier on Thisisinsider.com entitled "7 signs your phone is dying and it's time to get a new one." One of the main reasons it mentioned for getting a new phone was the inability to upgrade the OS. The latest is Android Oreo (8.0), but my LG G3 only has Android Marshmallow (6.0). Honestly, I think this phone works great and I don't really feel the need to upgrade to a new phone, so why bother?

I tried upgrading to Android 7 (Nougat), but it wouldn't let me because it said that my phone is already "up to date." Could this be a problem?

No it's not. Updates to flagship android devices only last for 2 years. The G3 is a 3 year old model, nearing 4 years (the G6 was released Jan/Feb 2017). It's simply beyond its update cycle.

So why bother with the OS if your device works great

The only reason is that in that article that I posted, it says that if your phone has an outdated operating system, then it could make it more vulnerable to cyber attacks or viruses, but I'm not sure if this is necessarily true for Android Marshmallow.
