Should I switch to Chromebook from a laptop?

So I used to be a gamer and got a windows laptop for cheap so I could game on it. Now I am done with gaming on it and stopped using a lot of programs and realized that if I'm not really using my windows laptop (Windows 8) for what its supposed to be used for besides internet browsing, I should just get a Chromebook! We have Acer c720 Chromebooks in our school as a classroom set and I feel that those Chromebook are WAYY to small compared to what laptop I have (15 inch). So I searched the web and found the HP Chromebook 14. That will be the only Chromebook I get if I switch, unless there comes another good one. So I was wondering, should I switch to Chromebook or stick with windows? I don't know if I should downgrade because to be honest there aren't any programs I use on my windows that you couldn't use on the Chromebook EXCEPT one. That one is Skype. Now I plan on buying a Chromebook around november so I can give it some time to hopefully make Skype compatible, if it doesn't I'm not sure. But once again my question is should I downgrade, what are the benefits, and some tips. Thanks!

Re: Should I switch?

Is buying Windows or ChromeOS considered the downgrade in your example?

Either way here is my price guide:

$0-$500 Chromebook. Every windows machine in this price range is a stuttery mess (IMO)
$501-800 Entry Level Ultrabook
$800-$1500 Macbook
$1500+ Windows gaming laptop

Re: Should I switch?

I consider it so because of the low program compatibility. So yeah I got a stuttery, messy, windows laptop. I am considering the Chromebook but I really need them to make Skype compatible because it is so I can keep track with my family.

If you have the money, the asus ultrabooks are awesome, even the cheap ones (for the skype compatible, and in any future any other program you need to use).

How did Skype not have a web app?

You could always persuade your family to get on Hangouts. Video chats on Hangouts work pretty nicely, and you can have a group video chat easily.
