Should I upgrade my Nexus 5X from 6.0.1 to 7.1.1?

I bought my Nexus 5x directly from Google in October 2015 with Nexus Protect insurance. It is my phone daily driver. I am running Marshmallow 6.0.1. It is running great. I am planning on getting a Google phone November next year and still have my Nexus 5 with a new battery.

I read about the LG hardware defect that has caused some 5Xs to go into continuos boot looping with Nougat 7 and end up unusable. Also, I read about a number of people having Bluetooth issues with Nougat on the 5X.

I now have the upgrade notice that 7.1.1 is ready to download for my 5X. So, I am asking everyone's opinion as to whether I should "make a leap of faith" and upgrade my 5X from 6.0.1 to 7.1.1? Or should I turn off the upgrade notice and just stay with Marshmallow until November?

I have been running the Nougat Betas and now I'm on the stable release of 7.1.1 and have no complaints or problems. But if you're happy and the phone is working well hold off.

I'm glad I upgraded though.

Why not? If you wait for a 100% perfect build you will never update again.

If you have to ask, don't. I am running Android 7.1.1 and have had no problems. For me and my Nexus 5x it's running great.

Well, I found out on XDA that the bootloop issue sounds like a soldering issue with the early production models of which I have since mine was produced 01-OCT-2015. It appears that NOUGAT exacerbates the problem. It can actually occur with Marshmallow.

7.1.1 is running great on my 5x, I've upgraded every update with no issues, I'm in the beta program. Why your so sure bad things are coming to your device because of a software update seems a little paranoid to me. Meanwhile I'm now waiting on the software update to 'O' But that just the way I roll, My computer runs windows 10 not windows 95 also.

If it is a soldering issue then upgrading the operating system has little to do with it (other than the heat generated while upgrading).

It appears that the upgrade exacerbates the soldering issue or maybe it is just a timing issue. But there are a large amount of posts having this happen right after upgrading. I think I will just stay with Marshmallow for now.

I upgraded as part of the beta program. Shortly before the official update came out (in the last couple weeks), my 5X started bootlooping and is now bricked. I'm pissed at the phone and at LG, but I don't think it was caused by the update.

I have to agree with 'pkcable'

If your device is working wonderfully. Then leave it alone. Unless you specifically want a feature thats been included in 7.1.1 then you can upgrade. I don't think anything will go wrong if you updated but why 'risk' it. For example with m Macbook Pro, its running on 10.9.5 because its working so nicely and I've just ignored all updates.
