... to root my phone till after the "update" if its what they say it is? i know rooting can do this and that much better. but i want to take this root slower that i did on my DINC. would i have a benifit of waiting or just screw it?
i really just want to root to get rid of bloatware

I spent the day rooting and then flashing a Gingerbread ROM onto my device, then figuring out how to update the Radio... fixing an issue with my device not showing up as a drive... then loading all my apps and setting them all up again... if you really want to do it and have never done it before you should expect to spend most of the day reading/learning and doing the upgrade. Ok, it wasn't a full day, but it was a good part of a day... which could have been shorter if I did not run into one or two small issues.

****EDIT: Oh, ya... and backing up old ROM... then backing up the new ROM after everything was said and done.

Could you tell what you did to get your device to show up as a drive?

You need to connect the phone, select internet pass through... it will start some process and this allowed a new driver to load... or something like that, but I could see it almost immediately, then just changed it to a drive... the thread is near the top of the Thunderbolt ROM section.
