Question Show data usage on home screen; Automate enabling of USB tethering

Hello,

I got a new Xiaomi phone, and would like to know if there is a way to…
1. Show data usage since the last reset on the home screen so I know how much I have left at a glance
2. Automate enabling USB tethering after I plug it in

There are several apps for that.

For number 1 there are several apps that have widgets for data usage. Google lists some of them here, but a simple Google search shows more.

For number 2, I'm not sure if this is possible in general. Being a Xiaomi may make it more difficult depending on what apps you have access to and the region. Tasker is the only way I can think of to automatically select USB connection type. Tasker is an automation app that allows you to use logic statements to perform simple tasks that can be strung together into larger tasks. It uses IF, AND, and OR statements which may be a learning curve for some. There are other automation apps but I only have experience with Tasker so it's what I talk about most. Some of the other auto apps are free and some are easier to use but may Tasker is the gold standard of automation apps. There are several places online that host Tasker help and sharing pages where profiles can be shared, help can be had to create profiles, and users can find other useful profiles.
