Show preview of text message instead of "1 new message"?

On my Motorola Droid the pull down menu showed a preview of the new text but my Droid X2 just says '1 new message'.

It might be the messaging app? Check the options in there.

If that doesn't work I would try a different texting app, like Handcent.

Its probably because ur og Droid was STOCK Android, which uses the stock messaging application. If u didn't root and rom ur X2, then the reason why there's no preview, is because ur using Motorola's custom UI with the Motorola messaging app, which prob doesn't have previews in the notification area.
