Shrunken qwerty keyboard problem

I have a reduced qwerty keyboard scaled to about 4/5th of the bottom of the screen. Using the settings doesn't change the size I can select qwerty or the 3/4 version. The qwerty is set but doesn't use the full width of the phone ..I can make the keyboard appear to the left or right ....what use is that? t makes it harder to input on such small keys. I have tried a number of suggested solutions..none of which have fixed the issue.

My phone is a galaxy note 4 and I've had my phone for a year. Problem just arisen in the past couple of days.

Are you using the Samsung built in keyboard or aftermarket? It sounds like you may have done this already. If you're using Samsung keyboard, long press on the microphone icon at the bottom of the keyboard. You should get a popup with six different icons. The far right is keyboard size. Tap on it and it will change the keyboard from large to small or vice versa. The small version can be dragged around (floats) the screen. If you've done this already, try a soft reset (restart) not a factory reset. Many times this clears up problems with any device.
