so my verizon pixel 2 now shuts down when I fully plug in a usb c cable. The screen doesn't even stay on the charging battery icon, it goes black, then back to the large charging battery icon again. I tried booting in safe made and charging that way and it still shuts down. If I plug it in just enough to charge (slow pace) and not enable rapid charging it seems to work. Anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to Android Central! It sounds like it might be a hardware issue, either with the USB port or the motherboard. You mentioned that this happens when you "fully" plug in the cable -- does this mean that it charges normally if you gently plug it in? If so, what happens if you apply pressure to the plug (either into the port, or side to side)? If it shuts down, then I'd focus on the port.

You need to eliminate the charger and lead from the phone. I would guess that the lead is the most likely culprit, but try another phone on your charger or the charger and lead on another phone. If it turns out to be the phone then there may be a problem with the charging socket on the phone.

My post and B Diddy's post crossed in the clouds. Having giving it some more thought I think his theory is correct.

Unfortunately this is becoming a rather common occurrence, at least, up on the Google Community forums. You can try the usual litany of possibilities:
- different cable (some people have had luck using the opposite end of the USB-C <> USB-C cable, which makes no sense at all)
- different charger
- clean the USB-C port
If all of that fails it's time to contact Google Support for a replacement.

I didn't know this was becoming a more frequent issue for Pixel 2 users. Keep us posted, OP!

Also, how long have you had your phone, OP? Do you have any kind of insurance on it? Perhaps Verizon would be able to assist you.

I have the same problem after latest update. I tried to charge my pixel 2 xl by fast charger at night and found it shuted down and fully discharged in the morning. It doesn't react on fast charge connection or PC connection. I can charge it using 2A charger. But it shuts down randomly during charging.

So it looks like it was a temporary problem. After posting I thought maybe it was a cable problem as when I got home it charged just fine on my car charger and stock google charger. Then the next day at work I tried the same cord with same charging brick and it worked fine. Thanks for all the input everyone

That's great news. I'm pleased it's now charging as it should.

So glad it worked out for you!

I had this issue and although I didn't get my phone from Google they replaced it. I also had it seem OK for a while so beware.

I'm in the same boat. Did a full factory reset...and that did not fix the probably. I've reached out to Google Support. That may be the only solution, at least for me. It should be under warranty, so I hope they send a replacement. Bummer. I genuinely like the phone.
