So I installed my color notification for my 5 people and it didn't work. Or so I thought, til I read somewhere the phone has to be face down? That seems really stupid to me. I never put my phone face down, why would they set it up that way? Who wants to potentially scratch their screen? Plus every other phone you had to have face up to see notifications.

Why would they ever do it this way? Or is there a way to switch it so you can have it face up to work?

I agree it's stupid and I bet less than 5% of the people that have the edge actually use it because of this. I went into this purchase knowing that I probably wouldn't care for any of the extra features and it was just for looks though. I did use the night clock last night though and I liked it since I don't have any other clocks in my bedroom and was a lot better than having to hit a button to turn on the screen to see the time.

I agree it's pretty dumb that it's done this way, and even dumber that it's only one side or the other. I think at least for the color notifications to take advantage of both edges, since there are two now. I can say however I had been putting my S5 face down at night so I didn't have to see any blinking LED lights from notifications.

I was really looking forward to this feature for the same reasons, and used it last night for the first time. I was somewhat disappointed by how bright it was. You definitely get a lot of light coming off the entire display in a dark room, besides just the white lettering. Wish it could be toned down even further. Not sure if I'll continue to use it or not. :-\

Dumb implementation. So much promise for the edge, though! Really hoping Samsung steps up and makes useful edge notifications and alerts and some third party apps would be awesome!

Most definitely. That's what I kept telling people that thought the extra $100 wasn't worth it. Aside from having a different aesthetic, I think the potential for more edge features is super high, just have to wait patiently.

I noticed the same thing and I am very confused, because I thought the point of AMOLED was that it could keep all the pixels pitch black except for the ones that are needed.

Glad I wasn't the only one!

What's even weirder is that then you can't get the notifications while you're charging....like at night!
