Side effects of rooting?

I've never had a locked bootloader before and I realize we can root via flashing a rooted image but since I've never done that before are there any side effects? Does the phone run as fast or faster as stock? Does the image delete settings and installed apps? If I go back to stock, doesn't that delete settings and apps?

Thanks

The rooted stock image shouldn't change any of your settings, apps, etc. If you Odin the stock unrooted via Odin it will restore your device to the factory specs. Rooting won't make it any faster just gives you the ability to tweak, remove factory apps, etc.

I'm running the rooted stock image. Combine that with Titanium Backup for freezing bloat and backing up your apps and your good to go.

Depends on what image you use to flash root. There are debloated, deodexed, and zip aligned versions out there. Stick with a rooted stock image like root66 if you want to be as close to stock as possible.

I'm experiencing mild paranoia.... find myself checking caller ID before picking up the phone, peeking before walking around corners at work, etc. But maybe that's a side effect of knowing that if I see my IT staff they'll try to get me to un-root, rather than of rooting itself. :D

All I know is after I rooted - my GPS went to . Takes more than a minute to lock on when before it was less than 5 seconds. I use GPS everyday at work so I have to revert back to stock with that stupidly annoying WIFI notification in the notification bar. UGH.
