Silence notifications but certain ones

Is there a way to only all certain notifications to make a sound like fb messanger when i have my phone on silent? I know about do not disturb but i still want other notifications to pop up but no sound when i have my phone on silent or vibrate. Even if there was an app for this that would be great. Thanks

Welcome back! Just so that I understand completely -- you want a way to make the phone silent except for certain notifications, and you still want other apps to have silent notifications in the status bar? What Android version is the phone running? I think Priority Mode went through a few changes through Marshmallow and Nougat.

Would be nice to find something with pictures or a video on how to do do it. I do see the priority apps feature but that doesn't help

Ok, this is how it works on my Nexus 5 on 6.0.1:

1. Go to Settings>Sound & Notification>App Notifications, select an app, and turn on the Treat as Priority switch.
2. Back on the homescreen, swipe down the Quick Settings and tap the Do Not Disturb button. Choose Priority Only.

Do you see those options, and does it work for you?
