Silly HTC tech support rep

I thought this was very odd. My friend, who just got a Rezound last week, called HTC tech support to see how she could get her backup assistant phone contacts to sync over to gmail because as we all know, backup assistant and gmail don?t play well together in the sandbox. When I had my Droid X, I had to find someone at Motorola who was able to guide me through a process of moving my contacts to my SD card so that they COULD sync into gmail.

Anyway, she called HTC and the rep actually asked her why she wanted to do this. Really? My friend being new to smartphones said, ?Well, it sounds pretty handy to me.?

She has not yet been able to get this done because she needs to be on another phone in order for someone to provide her with assistance. She is going to try again this week. While she waits, however, is there anyone here who knows how to get this accomplished? My sister has had a Thunderbolt for almost a year now and she needs to get her contacts to sync over to gmail as well.

Thanks!!

Can she not restore the backup from backupassist and then individually change the contacts to Google contacts? Also I'm not sure if the contacts are stored in text format but if they are you can directly import them in Gmail(on a PC)

Oh and try calling Verizon instead of HTC. Backupassist is a Verizon product.

Neither my sister or I have had any luck with getting Verizon to figure out how to get these contacts to sync into gmail. The only way I was able to solve the problem was through Motorola when the rep there helped me to get them into gmail.

+1 to this.
Also, I'm pretty sure that all your friend needs to do it log into her Verizon account to get this done. Assuming she backed up her old contacts through Backup Assistant and has it installed on her phone (she probably does, as this is part of bloatware), then all she has to do is open up the B.A. app on her phone and enter her password or pin number in order for it to sync.

Where on the Backup Assistant page can she convert these contacts to google contacts?

She has backed up her contacts to her phone, but her phone will not sync her contacts to gmail.

has she used the backup assistance from verizon? If not have her do it since it's free there is a super easy way to export to gmail

Yes, she (as well as my sister) both use backup assistant. Please tell me the super easy way to export to gmail. I know they both want to get this done! :)

I think you're pretty much stuck using one or the other.

I recently had to export a family member's contacts out of Backup Assistant - there is an option to export for use in Gmail, Yahoo. Then, I imported those contacts into a new "folder" in her Gmail Contacts. The loaner phone displays only that folder now.

We prefer managing contacts in one place; so, Gmail it is.

Have them log into thier Verizon Wireless accounts on a PC.

1. Go to manage my Device
2. Click on backup assistance
3. Check the box to highlight all contacts
4.Click actions and select Export contact and pick CSV
5. Save it to desktop or somewhere you'll find

Go to Gmail.

6. at the Gmail drop down you should see Contacts
7. Import Contacts

it'll import them as imported (date) you just need to change the group and then give it like 2-3 mins and it'll update to the phone

This is the process I followed with my old Driod X and it worked. Thank you!
