Sim Card Question

I have/had an original WiFi only Nexus 7. I have just bought a new one (2013) and have a couple of questions. Can I use the simcard from the old tablet in the new one so I don't have to upload music, etc. Will that harm the LTE function of the new one. In that regard, the new one won't connect to the Verizon network unless I turn on Airplane mode and then turn it off. Is there a fix for this?
