Is a sim card model of pixel c likely?

I doubt it, the design would require a change to accommodate it as the speakers are side facing and drilled holes which would require a bit of rework to fit a sim slot. I would think if they make a 2nd gen model that'd be your best chance however Google seems to be moving away from sim card options as the Pixel 2015 didn't come with any afaik either compared to the 1st gen but I may be wrong.

Is using my nexus5 as a portable hotspot to pixel c when Away from wifi connection a viable option?

I use my Nexus 6P as a hotspot for my Pixel C. You shouldnt have any/many issues
