Since Google sold Motorola, does it have a hardware company for phones?

I loved the Moto X and all the phones that Google released when they owned Motorola but...

they sold Motorola. Will/does Google have a hardware company to replace Motorola and release straight vanilla android phones again?

Ummm... Google has been releasing 'straight vanilla Android' phones for quite a while, even before Motorola. Every Nexus has been made by a different company.

But if you mean any Google-made, non-Nexus phones, nope, they won't. Even with Motorola, they were NOT 'pure Android' phones. They still had some Motorola enhancements in them.

They sold Motorola precisely BECAUSE they didn't want to be a hardware manufacturer - it caused conflicts with other OEM's when they perceived favoritism.
