Hi, haven't posted in a while, been waiting on AT&T (good corp discount, good coverage here) to bring out an Android form factor I like (Nexus 1, desire I like).
Finally, a Galaxy S model is coming out. But now I'm wondering about size and ruggedness - how they relate.
I have a palm Treo 680. The N1 is only slightly longer, about the same width at widest points (treo curves in more), and is thinner. The Galaxy is then longer and wider than the N1. Galaxy to Treo is about this:
Gal-S Treo Delta (mm/inch)
L 122.4 111.1 11.3 - 7/16 (nearly half inch longer)
W 64.2 58.7 5.5 - 7/32 (nearly 1/4 wider)
D 9.9 19.1 -9.2 - 3/8 (HALF as thick!)
I've always carried in front pocket, I'm worried that the extra length and width, but way thinner, would cause breakage.
How are folks carrying these latest gen larger devices? Does one dare putting it in the pocket any more? It seems like even iphones and palm pre's are having significant breakage at the smaller form factor. What say ye?
