It appears that Skype is now available for all android devices...does anyone know if this will finally allow evo to desktop video chat?

I don't believe this currently supports video chat. I may be wrong but I don't believe this is a feature....yet?

Followed the directions and had Skype send a link to my phone. When I clicked it on my Sprint Evo 4G I got the following message:

"Sorry, Skype for mobile is not available for your phone.

Switch to one of Verizon's best selling ..."

WTF??

Anyone know how to exit the app without using a task killer? I cant find this in any of the options. It looks like it just stays open in the notification bar?

edit - Found it under "My Info" - "Sign out".

I am so glad this finally happened. My company uses Skype extensively and this allows me to now be anywhere and be bothered by employees questions. lol.

I just uninstalled it because it kept running as a service and drained battery even though I logged off from it. I thought rebooting would stop the service from running...no! it kept running after rebooting.

Do you have the same problem?

Only if you leave your wifi on and have a connection.....

I signed out and then stopped the service under the running services menu. It hasn't came back yet and started the service back up.

If I sign out, the service should NOT keep running and eat up battery. It is a bad design/code or it is a bug to be honest.

Some of these app permissions worry me:
- Modify global system settings
- Retrieve running applications
- Write sync settings
- Read phone state and identity
- Record audio
- Act as an account authenticator
- Manage the accounts list
- Use the authentication credentials of an account

I can't really understand why an IM client needs all of this. Decided not to install.

Maybe cause it's more than an IM client (make calls as well). I don't see anything there I don't think Skype needs.

It makes cellular calls, or it makes voip calls? If it makes cell calls, then what's the point? I'm perfectly happy with my dialer. If it makes VoIP calls, then all it needs is an Internet connection (and presumably contact list access to add a Skype entry into contact list entries).

The service does not drain the battery, I have already done tests and checked usage. It uses nothing...
