Will Skype for the EVO work with say doing a conference call with someone on a PC or maybe even another EVO?

Won't happen, at least not anytime soon. Skype signed an exclusive deal with Verizon. I'm quite bummed about that since I used Skype all of the time. Perhaps it is time to look for a new VOIP service.

I remember seeing recently that Google acquired a VOIP company. Hopefully they do something in house soon for Android.

Hmmm. I will have to setup fring now and try it. I do wish Skype would come to Sprint though. Hopefully not too long anyway.

I thought I read on Engadget or somewhere that the Skype contract with Verizon is up this year, and that this fall, Skype should be available on the marketplace for all Android users.

I don't knw what u guys talking about I do video chat everyday with my daughter with skype on my EVO, just make sure u get fring n as the add-on hit skype n make sure u have skype account n ULL b able to video chat EVO to EVO or EVO to pc

For some reason fring won't register my skype account. I know I'm getting the user id and password right, but it fails every time. Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah fring works. I skype'd my dad a couple days ago. It works really well.

Great to hear. I just added my Skype to fring and I will have to try a call on it later. Chat seems to work well on the Skype side so that is exciting as well.

I would stilll love for Skype to come to the general Android market like they are saying though.

already been mentioned in post #5....
and it does work VERY well!

Skype will be coming later this year to Android... I'm not sure how their deal with Verizon work becuase AT&T and the iPhone have had Skype for a while now and way better then the Verizon App

fring is okay, but still pretty flawed in my eye. The sound quality is choppy a lot of the times and it sounds like people are under the water as well. One of my biggest irks is that you cannot add Skype users from fring, only fring users. Also when it comes to accepting an add request you cannot do it from fring either. So basically if you want to add or accept anyone, not using fring that is, you need to do it from a PC with Skype installed. Also the ringer is ridiculously bad.

I only use it when I want to show off video chatting to others, but I can see myself using the official Skype app a lot more once it is available in the Market.

fring - no longer

Fring used to work for skype, and quite well. They dropped Android support for skype (you can still use it for other IMs) to add more bandwidth for iPhone users, or something to that effect. In short, it no longer supports skype for the android. Anyone know of another solution?

This is a very old post ... almost a month old ... but at least you got your feet wet with your #1;)
