SLCD 3d screen...will the 3d make the screen look bad?

I've seen an htc sensation in person and the screen looks amazing. They both have the same exact screen, but the evo has the 3d. Does that just mean it's capable of showing 3d, or will something about the screen be different all the time? This is what I don't really understand and I'm hoping the fact that it can show 3d does not take away from the beauty of the screen.
