Sleep Mode?

Is it normal when the screen "sleeps" to have to push the power button to "wake" it? thought tapping anywhere would handle it........

so if i read this correctly that is the normal way to turn back on from sleep is hitting the power button

is there an app to eliminate the power button needing to be used? if not we need one
