I've had my GS5 (Canada - Bell Mobility) since just before Christmas and have had ZERO problems with the phone, the battery or the charger. I'm using the original out of the box charger from Samsung (2.1 A?) - the white one, and it has always charged from almost dead to 100% in about 90 minutes or so.

Yesterday evening, I connected the charger at about 50% battery and 3 hours later it had only climbed to about 65%. NOT normal behaviour. I had already installed the "Galaxy Charging" app because I wanted to check my cables and chargers, and last night when I checked I found that it showed I was only charging at 450mA. This is with the OEM charger, plugged into the wall through the USB 3.0 OEM cable. This is what I would have expected to see with a USB 2.0 from a PC, not a 2.1A wall charger.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour? I have already put in a ticket with Samsung, but thought that I would throw it out here as well to see what everyone else thinks...

I am currently using the charger from my GS3 and a cable from monoprice - Galaxy Charging app shows 1800mA and the phone's almost fully charged. Strangely enough, that charger is only rated for 1A... :p

I don't have the phone, but have you tried swapping the cable and using the stock S5 wall unit? At least that will help narrow down which part of the charger it is.

I agree that a poor connection with the cable could lead to a sudden reduction in charging speed. Other issues along these lines could be a dirty or damaged charging port on the device. Use compressed air to blow out the port and visually check it to see that nothing is preventing the cable from making contact, or the plug from fully inserting into the device. Cable are cheap and can be had anywhere from $1 to $30 so look around and see if a new cable may not be the key to this issue. If you suspect that it is your port your carrier's service department will usually check and clean them for free even if you don't have insurance. I would not attempt this myself.

I have another USB 3.0 cable that is much shorter, but yea - I will give that a try later today. I'll also try with my 2.0 cable in the stock charger and see what I get. I'm not too worried at this point that the problem is with the phone, but time will tell.
