Slow charge to "restore" battery?

I'm hoping to hear from some of the battery guru's here... I recently had an experience where my battery rapidly drained from ~30% to 0 within minutes, despite minimal usage of the phone in that time. I noticed a post elsewhere in the forum where a user did a slow charge via computer usb and it solved that problem, so I gave it a try and after testing it for a few cycles it appears to have worked for me too. The rate of battery usage now appears to be generally even from 100% on down.

Questions: Does anyone understand why the slow charge helped? How often should I do a slow charge, always? Does it matter if its a partial or full charge from 0 to 100?

My phone is an S9, <1.5 yr old, and I have very rarely let the battery go below ~45% or above 80%. I just happened to let it drain down below 40% during one day a couple weeks ago and first noticed the problem. I've read this is the best way to maintain a battery, but it doesn't seem to have helped in my case. Meanwhile, others here report more heavy use or unsystematic charging and have not encountered this problem. Are the "best practices" for battery maintenance urban myths or do I just have a bad battery?

Thanks
