Slow wireless charging at 95% after update.

This morning on wireless charging my phone has only gone from 95% to 96% and it has been 30 minutes!!! This happens on three different wireless chargers so it is not a charger problem. Any advice? This slow charging issue started happening right after Marshmallow update (wireless only). It seems to slow to a crawl once it gets to 95%.

I also have noted this. I wonder if they made an intentional change to the charge level after 95%? Before the update I would often see it go from 95% to 100% in just a few minutes, then it would drop quickly after it was taken off the charger. Perhaps charging full-rate towards the end of the charge was prematurely showing 100% when it really wasn't? This could be part of their strategy for better battery life.

I also noticed this morning that it went from 95% to 96% in about 35 minutes. Then it popped straight to 100% in a matter of seconds. I wonder what is going on. Still, to take 35 minutes to go from 95 to 100 is unusually long.

This is very annoying. I did a partition wipe and the phone is still suffering from the slow wireless charging issue. I would hate to do a factory reset. Is there any remedy?

Probably not. If it's a bug then it will be addressed eventually, but if intentional then I expect we're stuck with it. Think of it this way - previously you probably were not really getting a full charge. If you take it off the charger while it is doing that last long part of the charge, the resulting longevity may be the same as before - if as I speculate, it was falsely and temporarily registering full charge. I recall a number of us posting about how under Lollipop we'd take it off the charger and it would quickly drop. Mine no longer seems to do that. It would be great to get confirmation on this but doubt we'll get it. I can live with it if it gives me a better charge.

BTW - note that for the new doze feature to work, you need to sit the phone down when you're not using it, since it uses the accelerometer/gyro sensor to determine motion. So - if you carry your phone in a belt holster or pocket, then even subtle motion will prevent doze mode from engaging.

It is funny how this problem only occurs with wireless charging. It works just fine with regular and fast charging usb cables. And, it happens on all three of my wireless chargers, so a faulty charger is not the issue. Do you think this is intentional? I spoke to Samsung support and they claimed that this was the first time they heard of this.

I spoke to a person at the Samsung Experience store at Best Buy. She seemed to be aware of the problem. She said that they would reinstall the Marshmallow update to my phone from their computer. She said it was probably a glitch in the OTA update. A rep at Samsung corporate recommended the same thing. I will go in tomorrow and let you know if it fixed the problem.

Mine is doing the same thing. It's been on the wireless charger for an hour after reaching 95% and still not reached 100%.

Do you think if they reinstalled marshmallow it would make a difference?

Doubt it. I expect this is an intentional feature added by Google or Samsung. Folks in the stores would not know anything about it if it isn't in the release notes. Re-installing will definitely take you days to recover from, setting things back up, and if they re-install then you will lose pictures, files, and anything you don't backup or sync. I would not do it unless you confirm that it is unintentional behavior - from somebody who knows. Since it is happening to several other people, unlikely it is an install glitch.

It would not be like a factory reset. It would just be reinstalling marshmallow. Nothing would be lost. I wish there was a way to know for sure if this was a mistake or intentional. The issue does not appear to be widespread. Either that or most people don't care.

Never heard of a reinstall that didn't wipe everything, doesn't mean it doesn't exist though. No way to know if a mistake or intentional, but really doesn't matter. If a bug then we have to wait for a fix, if a feature then there won't be a fix. It's not widespread since probably well under a quarter of folks use wireless charging, and many of those folks won't notice, won't care, or are not aware of this forum.

This is not necessary a bad thing. If samsung did it on purpose then it's a really cool feature. The battery doesn't like to be fully charged every single time. By keeping the charge between 40% and 90% you actually prolong the life of the battery.

Have you found a remedy yet? Have you tried a factory reset?

No and No. I have been considering a factory reset though, not just for this charging issue, but for a few different issues.

I understand your point, but then the feature is half-baked, because all wired charging goes to 100% as fast as it always has.

samsung knows something we don't for sure. there must be a reason. maybe to stop the battery from getting too hot. who knows.
i personally would not mind at all if my battery would stop charging at 95%. that would help me get rid of the app i am using to tell me when the battery gets over 90% so i can unplug it :D

So annoying. Still slowing down to a crawl at 95%. Have you found a remedy yet? I have tried everything. Do you think it is a bug that will be fixed with an update? Samsung claims they are not aware of this issue but I am not too sure about that.

Wireless charging adds heat from the charging coil to the heat of the charging battery. Still less heat than rapid wall charging, but more than normal charging. Perhaps heat had previously peaked in the last 5%, which might have prematurely registered as a full charge. Can't be that they were worried about heat damage - or they would do away with rapid wall charging. All speculation until/unless we get definitive word from Samsung or Google...

Mine charged all the way to 95%, then just stopped charging entirely. I have an app that monitors charging, and it said from 3am to 8am, it didn't move from 95% at all. That doesn't seem right that it'd just get stuck there for that long. And it isn't just a one time thing, it's been doing it every night for the past week. Do you think the battery monitoring app is keeping it from charging all the way or something?
