Hi guys,

I got my S3 in july 2012 and it's getting a little on the slow side . . Is there anything I can do to get it snappy again? Things like messages take quite a while longer to load now and the dialler is also pretty slow so I wondered if anyone has any tips? It would be great to get rid of stuff like S-Memo that I NEVER use!!

Cheers

You can disable apps, here is how: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ng-apps-galaxy-s3-tab-2-no-root-required.html

You can try clearing cache, here is how: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ing-into-recovery-mode-galaxy-s2-s3-tab2.html

I would disable only things you know should not affect the OS, so like the S memo should be fine, Yahoo, etc...

Clearing the cache should help because you probably already did an update, and the old data is probably conflicting with the new OS.

Thanks for that. I disabled some apps which has helped a bit.. What does clearing the cache actually get rid of? Would I lose any app/account data, photos etc?

Deleting the cache will free up memory and clear some issues that you could be having. It won't delete data, as there another option for that (just above the clear cache option).

Also, the only time you should expect photos and other data to be erased is if you conduct a factory reset or have an sd card failure (corrupt).

You could root the phone and use a custom ROM to make it perform like new. CyanogenMod is nice if you like the clean feel of stock android.

I've tried to boot into recovery mode but for some reason my volume up key on my s3 is bust so I can't actually access that menu - - - is there another way to enter recovery?

Unfortunately, no.
