Smart Lock grayed out?

Any idea why my smart lock option might be grayed out? Verizon user

If u have Swipe screen lock only, then Smart Lock will be grayed out. It will be enabled once you implement security screen lock of some type. I have Pattern security and smart lock is enabled.
