I cant get smart pause to work. I have it turned on. Im new to android coming from iphone. Maybe its just me being dumb lol. Can anyone help? Is anyone else having issues with smart pause?

Totally on the same boat. Not new to android per say (Had an LG Optimus) but am new to the Galaxy phones. Bought my GS4 just yesterday and spent literally all day learning all of the new features and tricks on the phone. The smart pause NEVER worked. Tried it on the youtube app viewing multiple videos, nothing. Tried recording a video and then replaying it to see if it would work, nothing. Did numerous research searching the internet for answers and found youtube videos where people experienced the same problem and stressed it would only sometimes work if the lighting was just perfect. Articles reviewing the phone also complained about the faulty pausing. Glad to see I'm not the only one that is having this issue. This is a great feature on the phone, in concept, but so sad to see it only barely works sometimes, if that.

i am having the same problem i just bought my phone for full price on monday and exchanged it yesterday (thursday) because the air view worked off and on and the smart pause never worked and all of the proper setting are on. i've owned all of the galaxy lines and the s4 is definitely in my opinion a waste of money i think samsung rushed this phone to the market without fixing these major problems that helped promote the phone

Works for me but so far only if the phone is vertical in my hands. There was a light behind me when I tried so that may have been the issue. Worked just fine for me when I used the floor model in the VZW store.

Mine works great in portrait, can't get it to work right in landscape....

actually it's not a problem
some times my smart pause also doesn't work, but now i know what are the problem:
1. make sure that you are in the bright place (there is light enough for the front camera to recognize your face)
2. you must activate the smart pause first before opening the video
3. if you are using downloaded video player, than it will not work (you should use the default video player that installed on your device when you just bought it)

hope it help..
^_^

Smart pause works the best when there is light behind you the phone needs to see your eyes. So in a dark room it won't work

Hello Mine Works. Please did you check in the panel notification that the Smart pause is ON. It not work in YouTube videos, only in videos that you run from the Video aplication . Hope it help

Make sure ur in a good light area, also it only works on YouTube and Stock video player... It won't work on any 3rd party players from the Play Store... Also make sure u turn ur head away from the video... If it still seems your face the video will still play

It works. I thought the same thing. If you see a little eye in the notification bar it works. Your video probably seems to be buffering a lot, but actually that is it try to detect your eyes. Look away for awhile see if it pauses if it does it works.:)

I have the LGG2 and or also had the smart view option it only worked once when I was in the emergency room in the hospital and I also think it worked because of the lighting in the ER but other than that in very disappointed that this feature doesn't fully work whether the phone is aGS4 or any other high end phone that suppose to have this great feature
