I just exchanged my 1 month old Samsung Galaxy Note 7 for a new (non exploding) one & b4 I left home, backed up the old one including SD card using Samsung Smart Switch (SSS).

I am new to SSS. I noticed that while it did restore most things, there were some it did not.
I had to reselect my ring tone, notification tone & specific ring tones I has assigned to specific people in my Contact list.

Some apps (bloatware) that I had deleted were now back. Some apps had to be re-set up with user names/PW etc. I think some of the arrangements of the home screen icons were slightly different so, had to move some stuff around. I do not think anything is actually missing though.

I wonder if I will discover other settings or changes I had made from the default in the coming days & weeks that were not restored.

So, is this normal for SSS? What else does it NOT backup/restore?

None of these apps give you the exact replica of your old device. And new device will have the usual bloatware on it, that has nothing to do with smart switch. You get the bulk of your stuff on new phone and then you have to poke around and set it up now you like it. You also have to sign in to all your other services and pair all your WiFi, Bluetooth and such.. Some things you have to sign old phone out, before you can sign new phone in too... This is common to all platforms, my Mrs just got new iPhone and it took us hours to set up.

I did have to re-pair bluetooth in my car but, I expected that. I suppose any app where I initially had to set up things, I need to redo that. I guess the SS just restores apps you had & it does NOT delete apps (bloatware) that you had deleted on the old device but were preinstalled in the new device.
I was surprised about the ringtones, though. It DID restore my wallpaper which was a photo I had D/L.

A large majority of the basic phone settings switched over for me, but not everything. I still took the time to go through every option to make sure everything was how I wanted it to be. I was glad I double checked because I ended up finding some settings I didn't know existed the first time I bought the phone!

Only thing that didn't transfer over for me was notification tones for individual people, even though the actual tones did transfer. The ring tone changed over and was set automatically tho. I still had to go in each person's contact and select their text tone but that is a small inconvenience over having to re do everything so I can't complain.
