Smartphone NOOB: Droid 3 no activation

So I decided to join the smartphone world (my old dumb phone is crapping out) and decided to buy a used Droid 3 on ebay to get me to my update date (next may). It seems like a really nice phone with a clean esn so I bought it. It shows the "no service" cirlcle over my bars from the get go, and with countless attempts with verizon (in store and tech suport) I have not been able to activate it because of its no service state. I have bluetooth connectivity and wifi, so is there any ideas what to try? Hopefully I will be sending it back (the Ebay listing said no returns), but if not could I take the back off and make sure the antenna is hooked up? other thoughts?

What is the model code under battery?
XT862?

What system version 5.6.890 or 5.7.906
Menu>settings>about phone>system version

Yes it is a XT862 and it is currently running 5.7.906. One other odd thing, from the original droid startup screen it doesnt do anything unless you bypass it (dont know that it matters) this is my no signal problem!!

a few things can be tried.

dial *#*#4636#*#*
select Phone information
scroll down to options just above smsc: box
it should be CDMA auto (PLR)
and Turn off radio


if yours is different, correct settings and press home button, may want to reboot.

if settings are correct, I would reflash the firmware
2 options

1. download 5.5.1_84_D3G-66_M2-10 Blur_Version.5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US and RSD Lite
and follow my instructions Flash xml recovery files (Stock Rom) with RSD Lite
or
2. .906 1_click sbf .exe

either method should work, if it's fixable.

Where it says CDMA auto (PRL) mine says unknown and when I change it it goes right back to unknown. Also not to seem like a major novice but how would I get the files on your link onto my phone? Thanks for the help.
