SmartSwitch Messages

I've used SmartSwitch for years without issue, but it keeps saying my messages were transferred from my S24U (using Google messages), but my S25U Google messages app is empty. Any suggestions?

I verified it's set to default, cleared cache, cleared data, restarted, then tried the transfer again (also claimed completed).

Does it ever take a long time after saying it was successful? I would've expected to at least see some texts if that were the case.

Are you signed into the same Google account as on the previous phone? Is the correct SIM card/phone number selected?

Signed into the same account.

Hmm, you said SIM and I am remembering it's in neither phone right now. I didn't think that mattered if I could see everything on the old phone? I am trying to avoid missing messages while things are transferred, but maybe I have to go ahead and put it in the new phone first.

Edit - After putting the SIM in the S25U, only new messages are showing. I tried the switch again. It finished almost instantly. It says it's good to go, but still nothing.

I may have to resort to a third-party app. I don't love that. It's so weird that it's not working.

well i found out that if you try to smart switch yourself when i try to weds night and if you don't back update google drive if you for some odd reason decide to clear data you go back google message half of messages might be gone

i should had just click on samsung message and click back to google message restore but i did that sms backup and restore thing yes got it it back

despite yesterday afternoon guy at store when i told him story a little bit he decides to smart switch make sure things back up i'm still little upset that night before since guy couldn't smart switch due to store closing he activated phone and put new sim card in

that guy yesterday after smart switch 2nd time around he removed sim card put esim instead am not sure why did that i knew something was odd when i open google message yesterday now i did have to do back up google drive again<-didn't want to make same mistake if i clear data and fact no long have verizon phone trade in yesterday

i thought everything was fine still not sure if symbols that i had old phone s20 plus no longer on s25 phones

i notice ain't there s25<-is that not longer available now only say rcs chat with that person name?

anyways so my brother this morning text message me rcs despite i change color to blue stuck on default color nor the link automatic preview didn't display web link preview despite that show all preview on

now since i already back up to one drive last night i decided to clear date on phone and 1st off i notice 2 things rcs chat aren't available with this device<-but a few mins later i was able to enable rcs chat and some messages are not available i did download samsung app and went back to google message came up

i also went back color change rcs chat to blue and turn back automatically preview to show all preview on not sure if this helps or not<on s20 plus phone color change rcs and automatically preview to show all when somebody post me a link it would display it so again i'm lost onto what is going on

again i'm not sue something happen after the guy decided to remove sim card that i had just for 1 night btw and activated esim card yesterday on new phone it did something to google message i know something was off when did that and perhaps need to go to store tomorrow have them put back sim card am not sure

Resolved.

When I first started, I had made sure all apps (Google messages and Samsung SmartSwitch) were updated on both phones, that I had permissions set, and that Messages was signed into. In my frustration, I uninstalled SmartSwitch from both then reinstalled, along with Messages on the new phone because why not. Made sure I was signed back in to Messages on the new phone again. Checked all permissions again. Told myself ONE more attempt then I'll use SMS Backup & Restore (which duplicated most texts and deleted a lot of photos for me in the past - I wasn't keen on this option).

Somehow this did the trick and I'm all set.

i still don't know if my brother would had text message me weds night when i did have sim card and i did smart switch by myself if the chat color would had stay blue along with show all preview thing will display pic link he gave me this morning

but since another guy did it again yesterday at store and also removed sim card that was just put in for 1 night only and enable esim and he text me this morning and nothing change esim prob not so great with google message involving rcs color change and not showing web preview despite i did clear data and that i need to have sim card then everyhing should be ok am not sure perhaps this was also due smart switch 2nd time around

If you're still having issues with things like the check boxes under texts or previews for web links, etc. it may be that RCS messaging isn't working. I'd check that it's active by going under message settings, RCS chats. Your carrier may also be able to help with that if its having a problem connecting.

Keep in mind, your brother must also have RCS capability. If you have anyone else you know does, check texting them as well in case it's on his end.

rcs is turn on i just don't understand what's going on everybody in family now on iphone with parents 16 and my brother family

this is crazy because i never had any issues s20 plus i was able to change color no problem when i was forced oct to go google message from samsung at that point and time color change rcs good and previews should display when somebody text

i was just told in samsung chat that everything normal s25 google message supposed to say rcs chat with person name old phone would just show those 2 checkmarks at least that got clear up but still perhaps digital ain't good with google message and psychical works

its my own fault i should had never attempted to smart switch 1st place when i was told couldn't because store was about to close and have them do it still wished that guy yesterday never removed sim in 1st place and activated esim meh

how is it at your end you got issues after smart switch when you change color rcs chat does or is it default color? i assumed the automatically preview aka show all preview good eh do you have a sim card in or esim assuming youu did it twice

I don't understand all of your messages, sorry. I am not sure what you mean about the colors. My RCS chats works normally. I did SmartSwitch several times for messages to transfer but admittedly I'd never had that issue after several years of using it. I have a physical SIM.

since already rule out smart search is not the issue need to do a test see if issue still there after i clear data perhaps it will work now not sure

i wonder because i still had rcs on old phone when took it in store thurs however guy factory reset old phone and send it back for a trade phone was verizon but i think that affects folks who rcs may not be turn on so not sure that involve change chat color rcs chats and that web preview

did not work something ain't right i even uninstall update and install it back i am going to get sim card this weekend meh

perhaps it takes awhile to populate the color will see over night if it change in morning or not should show black and their end dark blue not default color light blue on their end

I can change the colors in a text thread, yes. It was instant.

i talk to old gemini it said that esim might be reason why can't change color in rcs chat and putting sim card might fixed color like it supposed to<-not exact words that is perhaps might be another reason why i can't see web link previews that my brother did

now normally old web link previews won't show up if you 1st start google message but new message should have it<-it did it on s20 plus phone you know guy before he did smart switch thurs afternoon wanted to know my phone number<-i think right there is when he removed sim card that was just added night before and activated esim

i'm little tired well talk to at and t store this morning on phone they also was puzzle onto why that other guy removed sim card thurs when it was just put in weds night at store because he told me that once put in sim card at store another person shouldn't remove it at all

umm tech support on phone didn't fully understand i went into at and t chat<-seems it was billing folks who i was talking to they put me tech support they read stuff over they got confused at 1st between text message and google messages had to confirm google messages perhaps thought samsung message and i told new stuff and told them what samsung chat said and we agree that sim card have to be in then colors will change like should

its odd having esim when try to change rcs chat color whatever color change it remains on default light blue color well i know my mom got issues with her iphone 16 as well as my dad his iphone 16 with yahoo account voicemail

there's nobody to blame but myself i put myself in this situation 2 things would had been avoided past weds night when knew they were about to close i should hadn't went there at all just stayed home and waited until thurs afternoon and have activate put sim card smart switch phone the end<-i'm sure guy would had done that

2nd of all since i did go and got activated and sim card but they didn't smart switch and i did it despite next day guy did it store just to make sure i did it right i should had told person slim card was put in night before don't removed it at all<-really all the guy had to do since decided to smart switch 2nd time that's it there was no reason why he should removed sim card at all like i said there was no warning that he was going to do that i was wondering why he asked phone number

heck the tech guy was android even he has a sim card on his phone i told him that how color change rcs chat he didn't know could do that meh
