In the middle of the night last night, in QUIET MODE, my phone started to scream with an Amber Alert notification that was 150+ miles away. In the past I had turned off Amber alerts, but kept the other alerts on. Apparently it switched back to defaults after the last 4.4.2 upgrade. These are the alert options on my T-Mobile US G3:

imminent extreme alerts
imminent severe alerts
AMBER alerts

I believe it varies by carrier ROM, but for T-Mobile D851 this is how to change the settings:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11915

I hope this saves someone from getting woken up in the middle of the night.

It's too bad the Amber settings can't be set according to a time range, or that quiet mode is ignored.

Thanks! I agree with you. I can see how emergency broadcasts like those for natural or manmade disasters need to alert you loudly no matter what time it is, but I don't think Amber Alerts (as valuable as they may be) require your attention at 3 AM. Most people wouldn't be active or driving around at that time, which is really the target audience of an Amber Alert.

I received an amber alert while driving the other day. Loud obnoxious continuous distracting sirens! So there I am in heavy traffic and in a no cellphone area trying to get my phone to shut up. As soon as I got home I disabled all emergency alerts. Allow me to configure a single beep and I'll think about turning it back on.

Not only was my car radio making all kinds of weather alerts, then my cell started screaming its little head off. Too much!
Unchecked appropriate boxes.

Thanks for that link tardus !
