SMS/MMS messages frequently failing to send

i did try searching on this and couldn't find what i needed so i'm wondering who else is affected. i've had this happen on 2.2 & 2.2.1 & 2.3 and on my old X and this new one. It also doesn't matter whether i use the stock app or handcent.

very frequently i will send a SMS or MMS and it will take forever and then ping back as failed or undelivered. i was talking with a verizon tech who has the same issue but i have to believe there is a fix for this somewhere or it's known. is anyone else as frustrated with this???

I get this periodically too.

It happened to me due to apps auto updating in the market. Since then I have gone through my app sin the market and unchecked those that were set to update automatically. It's only happened a couple times since then, but once I resend it goes.

I had this happen when I had a 1 in the front of the number I was texting to in my phone book. I think they downloaded from facebook that way and I had to edit them out.

hey guys, thanks for the tips! unfortunately though neither of these seems to be my issue. i double checked my phone numbers and none had "1" in front of them and i never check "auto update" in the market. i guess i'll keep searching!!

i want to believe it's a program interaction but i just can't figure out which one. i have tried frequently reactivating my phone (using *228 --> 1) and this sometimes fixes the issue.

so apparently i DID have things set to auto update. anything that comes stock on the phone (gmail, messenger, google maps) will be set to auto update, and things like my verizon etc. i unchecked those and we'll see what happens.

sigh, no dice on the auto update tip. and also my problem is i can't download MMS messages either half the time. been waiting 30 minutes for one to download. this is ridiculous....

ok so after poking around and freezing various apps i believe my installation of KIK messenger was freezing my texts & MMS. not sure how though....regardless we shall see what happens. i'll update this thread this evening once ive had sufficient time to use it.

I'm having this issue as well and I do not nor have I ever had KIK on my Droid X.

I also lose my wifi connection which requires turning airplane mode on and off, and sometimes my 3G connection as well.

Very frustrating.

ok so its definitely not kik, then i thought it was launcher pro. i've been freezing and defrosting everything in my apps to see what's interacting but i the problem is so intermittent i just can't find it. luckily my thunderbolt will be here tomorrow lol.

it obviously has to be a 3rd party app and it has to have access to messages/data somehow. otherwise im running out of ideas.

I have this issue a lot when connected to the network extender or week 3G signal. Are you using a extender by chance.. Also the network issue going to 1X a lot latly that was reported ay http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/81232-anyone-else-verizon-dropping-down-1x.html

This happens quite alot for me as well. Most of the times its sending pictures out. Always fails to send as soon as I push the "Send" button. Text message comes back and says not sent. Pretty frustrating.

I think we can eliminate Launcher Pro as well...I dumped it in favor of the other "popular" one whose name escapes me at the moment.

I am downloading darn near every free daily app off of Amazon. Think there could be a link there?

this happened to me last night and this morning... tried a text from Handcent and the default app, neither worked. Yanked the battery, rebooted, and a test text (say that 10 times fast) from Handcent worked.
