With Google introducing the option of having iOS style reactions in Google Messenger, is that in theory something that can now be done in 3rd party apps such as Pulse? I'm not a coder so not sure how all that works the reagrds to SDKs and such.

Thanks

Anything is possible. The biggest hurdle would be if Google doesn't publicly release the relevant code and charges a licensing fee to other developers to use it.

I am not sure about that. I'd have thought that in theory, the "reactions" are coming in (and being sent) within or as part of the actual SMS messages. So, I'd think that any app that has full access to SMS would also in theory be able to be developed/updated to do something similar to what google did for their app. Wouldn't it?

You could be right, and why I qualified the hurdle as an "if" rather than a certainty.

Yes, and I am equally not sure either.

It kind of surprises me that Google took this long to do something on their end. So, maybe it is way more complicated and something Google has to do directly in the Android OS.

If this sort of thing is possible for any SMS app, then I'd suggest that maybe RCS is way further away from becoming standard for all then some think.

I personally couldn't care less. If I have a reaction to something, I'll tell you. It's very very rare that I'll "like" or otherwise react to something without commentary.

Yeah I think most of the reactions are stupid. However, a quick thumbs up or thumbs down reaction is sometimes easier and faster for me then having to respond by typing out "ok" , or "no" . The only place I normally ever "like" something without also commentary is here on AC or in CB, if I am trying to quickly signal 100% agreement or thanks to something someone posted.
